Theory as a Sleeping Aid

Let me tell you it is exhausting planning lessons for a three hour class. It might be easier if I just pulled out all the little "activities" in the chapter guide, but they insult my intelligence. Making every moment of a three hour class meaningful takes it out of you. Nevertheless, I think I planned a good lesson for Friday.
On the days that I don't teach I have a system down - switching activities every couple of hours so I don't get side-tracked. Even so, there is no method that I am familiar with that can keep me awake for more than two chapters of a pure theory book. No matter what I do, I cannot keep my concentration past that point. I start losing the thread or nodding off. Yes even us English buffs fall asleep on our books sometimes. Still...this little habit will seriously impede my progress with the Field list, so I am breaking my rule and reading two Fields books at the same time. Many readers handle more than one book at a time - and I do too, technically. I have my bedside reading, my magazines, my blogs and such. But I like to focus on one "school" book at a time to keep my thoughts straight. After several attempts with reading theory books in the manor, I have concluded that I should read several chapters a day and stick with another book for the remainder of my reading time. If anyone has suggestions for reading theory past two chapters...please share!
